Grass was more than underfoot on the first day of Outside Lands.
San Francisco gave the go-ahead for cannabis sales at the city’s largest summer music festival less than 48 hours before the event’s start on Friday.
And people were lighting up.
The festival’s marijuana-themed exhibit, known as Grass Lands, is tucked in a wooded area at the southern edge of Golden Gate Park. It features two dozen vendors — selling goods like vaporizers, pot-infused mints and pre-rolled joints — as well as three separate areas for smoking and vaping.
Brooklyn Wright, whose wife was performing at a small stage inside a consumption area later in the day, sat at a picnic table early Friday, sculpting a carrot and apple into a homemade bong. One of the vendors, Flow Kana, is hosting a contest for transforming fruits and vegetables into paraphernalia.
