Cannabis oil still dangerous drug, not medicinal, says health ministry

Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad says those found guilty of dealing or possessing cannabis products will be subjected to severe punishment.

PUTRAJAYA: The health ministry maintains that there has been no evidence that cannabis oil can be used as medicine.

Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said cannabis oil is classified as a dangerous drug under the Dangerous Drug Act and those found guilty of dealing or possessing cannabis products would be subjected to severe punishment.

“There is a provision under the law for cannabis oil to be used for research but I will have to endorse it,” he said at the ministry today.

Dzulkefly said the Cabinet today also discussed the case of Muhammad Lukman, 29, who was recently sentenced to death for possessing, processing and distributing medical marijuana (cannabis oil).
