The Council Bluffs City Council unanimously approved a resolution supporting the location of a medical marijuana oil dispensary in the city.
A change in Iowa law will allow the Iowa Department of Public Health to approve cannabidiol — also known as CBD — dispensaries in up to five cities. Sioux City passed a similar resolution on March 5.
The council voted 5-0 to support bringing a dispensary to Council Bluffs.
“The reason I brought this forward is because I think it’ll benefit the community, with the health benefits,” said Councilman Roger Sandau, who put the resolution on the agenda.
Sandau noted before the vote that regardless of the night’s outcome, it’s possible the state could locate a dispensary in the city.
According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, a total of seven companies submitted 21 applications to open CBD dispensaries in 11 cities in the state. Among those, three applications were to locate in
