NORTHWEST WISCONSIN – At least one local store is selling cannabis oil, prominently displayed at the checkout counter. The national distributor of the oil says he is but one of about 1,000 U.S. distributors.
Cannabis oil, formally known as cannabidiol, is a derivative of the marijuana plant. It has been shown to treat children suffering from intractable epilepsy. The selling of CBD oil is of local relevance after the St. Croix Chippewa Indians announced plans to manufacture and distribute CBD oil out of its former fish hatchery facility in Danbury. The St. Croix Chippewa claim a sovereign right to do so, while the federal government said it is illegal, and they would take prosecution and enforcement action.
