Court finds severe burns punishment enough for cannabis oil manufacture

A man whose cannabis oil manufacturing caused a house explosion had “a major wake-up call” after a lucky escape, Nelson District Court has heard.

Matthew Maher, 34, suffered burns to 37 per cent of his body when the December 28 explosion blew through the roof of a Stoke sleepout.

He pleaded guilty to producing cannabis oil, and not guilty to a charge of possessing about 100 cannabis seeds later withdrawn by police.
